Dear Diary, this week…Blog 2

This week I continued to work on the Alpha Presentation, along with our teams designer. I choose to continue to work on this since it was an important milestone for our group and would be used to decide whether or not the group would be able to continue to work together or be split up and have to join other groups.

While our group had most of the requirements for the Alpha presentation in the game we still needed to implement our power-up and some of our GUI. We did manage to have a short Scrum meeting on Monday, where went over our plan for the week and had a short review of last weeks scrum. This meeting was helpful, but we needed to have a longer one where we would talk about how the presentation would go and how we would like our UI to look for it (we are going to continue to work on the appearance of the UI).

Alpha Opening

Together with the group we managed to have a longer group meeting on Wednesday and managed to talk about the presentation. It was decided that Tomas and I would work on and be the two main presenters of the powerpoint, with the rest of the group speaking up when things regarding the art or coding are brought up. It was during this meeting that Tomas and I created the powerpoint. We had some difficulty in deciding how the presentation would look and how we would transition into our game at the end of it. These were not serious disagreements, and more along the lines of me just annoying him by choosing random powerpoint themes.

Overall I feel that we gave a good presentation, everyone was there and we all managed to present without having any panic attacks. For our next milestone, we are going to work on the level layout, finishing the fog, the art for the Umibozu and finishing the UI. We will also be improving on what we already have.

  1. Hey! You’ve written a nice post about an important subject, and apart from some grammatical errors, I believe you have done a good job of explaining what you have done, how you did it as well as why you did it. The text could have a better flow in order for the reader to have an easier time following along, but overall this did not affect the content of the post.

It’s interesting to read how your group prepared for the alpha presentation, which is similar to how our group did it actually; as a collaboration between the producer and the designer. Also, I really liked your last slide, incorporating a bit of humour into a presentation is a good idea! Since the alpha presentation is such a big milestone for this project, this blog post is of value as it offers some insight into the preparations made by the group.

Good luck on your next couple of sprints leading up to the beta presentation, I look forward to see how your game will develop!
